Now, get set for CET 2008

It’s CET fever again. Under a brand new head - the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) - the process for one of Karnataka’s most controversial entrance tests for admissions to professional colleges will start off on a smooth note this time.

The KEA has asked students (second PUC/class 12 including CISCE, CBSE) desirous of appearing for CET 2008 to submit a demand draft (DD) to their respective schools/colleges by January 16. The CET will be held on April 19 and 20.

Never before has the controversial CET been so smooth. Ever since its inception, the CET admissions have been clouded with confusion with private college managements and the government haggling over seats in engineering, medical and dental colleges.

Year after year, admissions are held after the courts come to the rescue of the lakhs of students aspiring to become doctors and engineers.

But CET 2008 has been historical. Even before the test dates were announced, the governor’s advisers sat with private college managements and arrived at a consensus not just on seat-sharing but the contentious issue of fees as well.
