Indira Gandhi National Open University vice chancellor Rajasekharan Pillai inaugurated an information kiosk at IGNOU campus on Sunday.
This is a touch screen kiosk, which can be used by students to get general information like information related to address, admission, registration, grade-card and semester-wise term end exam results just by entering their enrolment numbers.
This information is already available online. So this kiosk is in a way another platform to get this information.
But will this kiosk be able to ease the long queues of students waiting to get information with slips in their hands? Not now at least. The most it will do is shift the queues from information counters to kiosk.
If this initiative is to make any difference, then it will be possible only when more such machines are installed to help students.
In any way, this is a welcome step taken by IGNOU and we hope that this will go a long way in making distance learning easy in India.
